How often have you deep cleaned your home lately? Spring is traditionally the season to give your home a big clean and if you’re moving it’s really important to do so.
For moving in, for viewings or when you vacate a property, it should be sparkling clean. It’s more than just giving the surfaces a wipe, there are areas of a home that aren’t typically cleaned very often, for example, underneath the beds.
Buyers who are viewing a property will most likely inspect your property. They may take a look inside kitchen cupboards or behind furniture so they can gauge the space and imagine it being their own. This is why it is important to be very thorough when cleaning.
Ensure you’ve got everything you need, create a list and make sure you have enough. Once you get into the groove of cleaning you don’t want to be interrupted with the task of going to the shops to get more supplies. We mean your cleaning tools as well as cleaning detergents.
Working your way into the centre of the room will ensure each section of the room is covered and has been cleaned. Going from one section to another can mean areas in between are easily missed out.
Dust and dirt collects everywhere, even above our eye level. Remember to clean light fixtures and other features you have close to the ceiling. Avoid cleaning twice by cleaning high to low, if dirt or dust falls onto the lower section you’ll be going over it again and making more work for yourself.
Cleaning the fridge should be one of the first jobs you do when you move into a new home. Perishable goods shouldn’t be left out for too long and because it’s empty, it’ll be a quicker job. You’ll also neutralise the odour of the fridge when you sanitise the shelves and walls.
Last on the cleaning list should be vacuuming and mopping the floor, you want to clean the whole area before moving onto the floor otherwise you’ll be spending time going over it every time something new falls onto it.
Don’t forget to make cleaning enjoyable and put on your favourite playlist, audiobook or podcast.
Take care with the cleaning products you use and ensure they are suitable for the surface you are about to use it on.
